Happy Belated Birthday Dreamcast

Post by Shwiggie » Sat Sep 12, 2009 7:01 am

9/9/99...the tenth anniversary of its release. I celebrated by finding, downloading, and burning a game I didn't already have (granted, it was Sonic Adventure...non-self-booting :atch:). Currently planning to do Ikaruga tomorrow night.

I actually played mine a few weeks ago.

I can't believe it's been 10 years already

Mine fucked up on me and stopped reading the controllers through the ports. It's still collecting dust in the house I grew up in. I really wish I had one that works. Fire Pro Wrestling was the SHIT on that system.

I still consider the Dreamcast to be the most underrated system of all time. It's a damn shame SEGA gave up on it like they did. It was so damned far ahead of its time.

Are they really that cheap? I saw one in a game trader store for like $40. I had a friend that paid about 40 for one and when he got it home, the damned cables didn't even work.

I see one that's at $19 with free shipping.

There's one up for 99 cents

Check ebay.

Just make sure to get one made September 2000 or before if you intend to make use of it's most phenomenal feature.

I heard a rumor that there are going to be some Dreamcast games available on the Playstation network for download.

The dreamcast was an amazing system with untapped potential. It is still my favorite system of all time just because it did so manything that most would never have dared and did a lot of things right (online play anyone?).

THREAD RESURRECTION

Been playing a lot of Crazy Taxi on nullDC emulator. I still suck at it, but it's fun. Good thing, since some of my DC discs have disc rot and won't play anymore....

Man, I know... I busted out my psx and my DC a while back and alot of the games were corrupted. Some still work like a champ though. I remember years ago me and $nave were discussing the lifespan of our pirated collections...Atch to the Future.

I been fooling around with the Sega Fusion emulator, it runs all of the old sega systems and add-ons. I haven't fooled with the DC emulator yet, but soon.

I'm running a Radeon HD 7950 card (considered a midrange quality card nearly two years ago) in my desktop, and nullDC runs without a hiccup.

Re: disc rot, most of those are copies I made in the early 2000s. Luckily it's much easier to find and download ROMs now than it was then, so new discs won't be a problem if I want to run it old-school.

Yeah, the emulator scene has really advanced in leaps and bounds.

It's funny because I remember having the "Flip it" card at Blockbuster with unlimited rentals and I'd just rent tons of Xbox and PS2 games, burn them and take them back. I haven't checked any of those discs lately.

A lot of the PSX and DC stuff are toast, but yeah I've been downloading the roms for the PSX games that are my favorites.
