MOMENT OF SELLING OUT

Post by die » Sat Mar 25, 2017 5:02 am

That one moment captured on video where you're like NOPE.

^ You wore a dress in Nirvana and played the drums. You used to only wear a suit & tie to troll corporate magazine covers. YOU'VE COME A LONG WAY, BABY.

OBAMA WANT LEVEL @ CRITCIAL MASS

Special shout-outs to Varys the Spider from Game of Thrones on the drums and Stevie Wonder at 3:51 doing the king cobra sway gesture for that dude missing the proper drumroll.

^ I've seen you shoot blue lightning across a civic center, you don't need me to buy your motorcycle.

Looking like Evil George Carlin Ralph Kramden.

Metallica vs Napster was a blatant sellout moment. They effectively sued their fans.

Metallica was always hilarious because they got their start hanging out outside concerts and handing out copies of their music and telling people to spread it around.

Then Napster happened.

Fun fact: I still have the Napster Beta install file on an old pc. I've also never bought a CD since I ever downloaded that install file.

I think it got worse due to Lars trying to explain shit but still want to come across as carefree and cool.

It just made people madder.

Like , I don't even remember the other band members being anywhere near as involved. Lars was everywhere about it though.

I picture him having a Scrooge McDuck money vault that he used to snorkel in.

Yeah James was kinda about it at first, but I think he caught on early that the fans didn't give a fuck. Lars went off the deep end about it, though.

I think it was a major reason the band almost broke up, and possibly one of the reasons why Newsted left the band (although the major factor in that was James Hetfield getting one of Newsted's side bands shut down).

I mean, it was a dumb idea to start accusing the kids wearing Metallica t-shirts and going to your concerts, who had purchased all your previous albums, of ripping you off.

I wonder if we can even pinpoint where The Smashing Pumpkins destroyed all of their credibility...

In my mind, it's when they did that song for the Batman movie and Corgan had on that Gimp Darth Vader nutsack diaper shield thing.

I think somebody had a rear view mirror on their guitar or something.

I was like woooah son.

This thread is fascinating. May I add:
