TSG Deathlist 2016

My only wish is that TBS becomes the "Roadhouse" channel... then the circle will be complete

This one wasn't the surprise Prince was, but it's still a kick to the dick.

I'm not sure if he was the greatest of all time, because it's impossible to compare him to other fighters, even the greats of his era (Frazier, Foreman, Norton, etc.). Ali was so silky smooth and fast that it allowed him to have a style that no heavyweight before or since could pull off. As a showman, he was completely untouched. When he lost speed later in his career, he also fought with BALLS, and could battle through more traditional fights against beasts like Foreman.

He didn't do what was popular or would get him the most endorsement cash; he did what he felt was right. Although I disagree with a lot of his choices (Islam, dodging Vietnam), you have to respect his principle.

Ali was the dude so many people tried to emulate but failed hard on some level. Later in his career, he would make mixed drinks even on accident.

Yeah, I know. Way too soon.

RIP

His draft dodging is actually one of his greatest moments. You seem to forget how bad civil rights were. Black people were being forced to fight in a war by people unwilling to let them drink from the same fountains.

I shouldn't need to point out how pointless and stupid the Vietnam war was.

2016 going down on record as the shittiest year ever.

I don't totally disagree, but think that the racism he faced and his outspoken support of black culture could have been done more productively than joining the Nation of Islam. Following Malcolm X instead of MLK seems like you bet on the wrong horse to me.

As for the draft, it was a strong statement, but he would have been used as a Captain America-esque propaganda piece and morale raiser for the troops overseas. The War was very wrong, but without living through it I wonder if there was a better way to handle it than avoid the draft entirely. Perhaps given the lack of media access before social media there wasn't an outlet for his message; if that's the case I certainly could be wrong on the war example.

Has any recent year been as crucial as '16?

Nope. I don't think any year has dealt this level of carnage.

And we still got a ways to go yet.

I started responding about how he had a stroke over a year ago, and he was 88, and then realized I am stupid.

Anton Yelchin ("Terminator: Salvation," "Star Trek") died in a car accident.

And he wasn't even a red shirt. Still, kinda surprising. He was in the Fright Night remake, too.

Yeah, this one does suck. Yelchin was great. I think I've liked him in every movie I've seen him in.
